Three Zambian Entertainers Among 17 Suspects Detained in Mongu

Three Zambian entertainers — Moses Ng’andwe, popularly known as Chester More Power, Felix Phiri, also known as Felix Ndangeni Inshila, and comedian Winston Ngosa, popularly known as IDC Light Comedy — are among 17 people who have been formally charged with riotous behaviour and possession of offensive weapons in Mongu.

The three entertainers are currently being detained at Mongu Correctional Facility, alongside the other 14 suspects following their arrest.

Police Confirm Charges Against 17 Suspects

Western Province Police Commanding Officer Godfrey Mwanza confirmed that the 17 suspects have been formally charged with the two offences.

According to Mwanza, the suspects have not yet appeared before a court because the case is still undergoing the required prosecutorial process.

He explained that the police have submitted the case dockets to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) for perusal.

Case Dockets Sent to NPA

Mwanza said the submission of the dockets to the NPA is part of the process that must be completed before the suspects can be taken to court.

He said a specific court date has not yet been set because the prosecutorial process is still underway.

“The dockets relating to the matter have since been submitted to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) for perusal,” Mwanza said.

The police commander added that the 17 suspects would appear before court once all the necessary prosecutorial processes had been completed.

No Court Date Set Yet

The absence of a court date means the matter has not yet reached the stage where the allegations will be formally heard before a magistrate.

Once the prosecutorial process is completed, the suspects are expected to be taken to court, where the charges against them can be presented and determined through the judicial process.

At this stage, the suspects are only facing allegations and charges. Their detention and formal charging do not amount to a finding of guilt.

Details of Alleged Weapons Not Released

Police have not yet provided further information regarding the circumstances that led to the arrests of Chester, Felix, IDC and the other suspects.
