Kunda Opens Up About Her Journey to Solo Success
Kunda reflects on her journey from backing vocalist to becoming a solo artist with her new album, Na Fika.
Zambian artist Kunda has opened up about her gradual journey in the music industry, revealing that her career began long before she stepped into the spotlight as a solo performer.
Speaking during an interview on Prime TV, Kunda explained that she has been involved in the music industry since 2014, initially working behind the scenes as a backing vocalist.
She said this experience allowed her to work alongside lead artists while gradually building her own understanding of the industry.
From Backing Vocalist to Lead Artist
According to Kunda, many people may already recognise her face from her years performing as a backing vocalist, even if they did not previously know her as a solo artist.
Her transition into her own career has, however, been a gradual process.
Kunda described her growth as taking place one step at a time, saying the slow progression has helped her establish a solid community around her music.
She believes the relationships she has built throughout her journey have become particularly important to her development as an artist.
Building a Stronger Connection With Fans
Kunda pointed to the response at her album launch as an example of how those relationships have developed.
She said many of the people who attended were supporters she either personally knew or had previously worked with and supported.
For Kunda, the support became a two-way relationship, with people she had collaborated with or supported in the past returning that support during an important moment in her career.
With Na Fika now marking another major step forward, Kunda says she hopes to continue building personal relationships with her supporters while pushing her music further.
