President Hichilema Pays Tribute to Dr. Guy Scott

President Hakainde Hichilema has described former Vice President Dr. Guy Lindsay Scott as a selfless statesman who always placed Zambia’s national interest above personal ambition.

Speaking during Dr. Scott’s State Funeral Service in Lusaka, President Hichilema said the late former Vice President leaves behind a legacy of patriotism, constitutionalism and dedicated public service. He said Dr. Scott’s life should inspire both current and future leaders to serve the country with integrity and commitment.

The President noted that despite having opportunities to live and work abroad due to his academic achievements and expertise, Dr. Scott chose to remain in Zambia and devote his life to serving the nation. He highlighted Dr. Scott’s journey through public service, where he served as a Member of Parliament, Cabinet Minister and eventually Vice President.

President Hichilema also praised Dr. Scott’s leadership following the death of former President Michael Sata in 2014, describing it as one of the most sensitive periods in Zambia’s democratic history. He said Dr. Scott remained committed to upholding the Constitution, safeguarding peace and ensuring a smooth democratic transition despite intense political pressure.

The Head of State extended his condolences to Dr. Scott’s widow, Charlotte Scott, and the entire bereaved family, saying the nation mourns a distinguished leader whose service, courage and love for Zambia will never be forgotten.
