Mundubile Alleges Army Raid on His Home After Elections

Opposition Leader Recounts Harrowing Account of Gunfire at His Residence

Opposition leader Brian Mundubile has given a harrowing account of an alleged attack at his residence, claiming that armed members of the Zambia Army broke into the house and opened fire shortly after Zambia’s elections.

Mundubile made the allegations during an interview in which he described the incident as a terrifying experience for himself, his wife and other people who were inside the residence at the time.

Mundubile Describes the Alleged Attack

According to Mundubile’s account, the attackers allegedly broke doors and windows before gaining access to the house.

He said that, amid the panic, people inside the residence attempted to find safe places to hide. Mundubile claimed that the armed men followed them into the bedrooms and, after entering the room where he was with his wife and a colleague, immediately opened fire.

He alleged that his colleague was shot twice while the attackers also fired in his direction.

Mundubile said he narrowly escaped being hit, claiming that one of the bullets passed so close that part of his hair was scraped away. He also said he noticed gunpowder on his body after the incident.

Former Minister Allegedly Shot

Mundubile identified his colleague as Honourable Muto Tweka, a former Minister of Transport.

During the interview, he was asked about the former minister’s condition and said he had been reliably informed that Tweka had died after allegedly being shot twice.

Mundubile also claimed that his bodyguard, Richard Banda, had died.

These claims concern serious allegations, and the circumstances surrounding the reported deaths and the identities of those responsible would require confirmation from the relevant authorities.

Several People Reportedly Missing

Mundubile further said that a number of people who were inside or around the residence during the incident could not be accounted for.

He said communication became extremely difficult after the incident because those affected had been without their phones while attempting to find safety.

Among the people he said were missing were his presidential spokesperson and Lukasha Member of Parliament George Chisanga, as well as Patrick Muansa, his nephew Francis Mulenga and his driver Moses Mutambo.

Mundubile said there were also security personnel outside the residence whose whereabouts were unclear.

Mundubile Says Government Had Not Provided Answers

According to the opposition leader, there had been no clear information from the government concerning the whereabouts or condition of the missing individuals at the time of the interview.

He said the government had remained largely silent and alleged that authorities had at one point denied that the incident had occurred.

The allegations have therefore raised serious questions about what happened at the residence and the circumstances surrounding the reported shooting and disappearances.

Serious Claims Require Official Clarification

The account comes in the aftermath of Zambia’s 2026 elections, a period when political tensions and concerns over the country’s democratic environment have attracted considerable attention.

Mundubile’s allegations, if verified, would represent a serious security incident involving political figures and would require a full investigation to establish what happened, who was involved and whether any security forces were responsible.

At the time of the account provided, Mundubile said he and his wife had survived the incident but remained concerned about those whose whereabouts were unknown.

The claims made in the interview should be distinguished from confirmed facts until official investigations or independent evidence establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, reported deaths and missing persons.

The incident has nevertheless added to the political debate surrounding Zambia’s post-election period and the country’s democratic institutions.
