Musician Warns Public Against False Political Association Reports

Popular Zambian musician Afunika has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that he has joined the Tonse Alliance, describing the information as false and misleading.

In a statement dated July 6, 2026, Afunika said he is not aware of any involvement with the political grouping and has not authorised anyone to use his name or image to suggest that he is associated with the alliance.

The musician urged members of the public to disregard the reports and avoid sharing information that has not been verified. He said the claims circulating online do not represent his position and should not be treated as an official announcement concerning his political affiliation.

Afunika further warned that individuals responsible for creating and distributing the alleged false information were acting without his authority. He indicated that those behind the claims could face legal action if they continued using his identity or spreading misleading information.

The clarification comes as political activity intensifies ahead of Zambia’s 2026 General Elections, with political parties and alliances seeking support from different sections of society. Public figures, including musicians and entertainers, have increasingly found themselves the subject of political claims and speculation on social media.

Afunika has therefore used the statement to make his position clear and distance himself from the Tonse Alliance claims. Rather than becoming involved in the political speculation, he said he remains focused on his music career.

The musician’s clarification also serves as a reminder to social media users to verify political announcements involving public figures before sharing them. With election-related information spreading rapidly online, unverified claims can easily create confusion about an individual’s political position.

As of the statement, Afunika maintained that the reports linking him to the Tonse Alliance were baseless and that he had not given permission for his name or image to be associated with the political grouping.
