ZESCO Rules Out Return of Nationwide Load Shedding
Zambia Unlikely to Face Load Management Again
ZESCO says Zambia is not expected to return to nationwide load shedding due to improved power generation and energy investments.
ZESCO has assured the nation that Zambia is not expected to return to nationwide load management this year and beyond, citing major improvements in electricity generation across the country.
Managing Director Justin Loongo said the power supply situation remains stable following several interventions aimed at strengthening generation capacity and improving the reliability of the national electricity grid.
According to Loongo, the positive outlook has been supported by increased output from hydro, thermal, and solar energy sources, alongside stronger partnerships with Independent Power Producers and Independent Power Traders.

He explained that these developments have made the country’s electricity system more resilient and better equipped to provide stable power to households, businesses, mines, industries, and other important sectors.
However, Loongo noted that isolated outages may still occur in some areas due to vandalism of electricity infrastructure or network faults. He urged members of the public to report such incidents through ZESCO customer service channels.
Meanwhile, ZESCO is expected to conduct a media tour of selected power generation facilities in Maamba, Livingstone, and surrounding areas next week to showcase efforts being made to secure Zambiaβs electricity supply.

It’s encouraging to see Zambia’s energy infrastructure becoming more resilient with the mix of hydro, solar, and thermal sources. Strengthening partnerships with independent producers clearly seems to be paying off. Hopefully, continued public vigilance against vandalism will help maintain this stability for everyone.
