What to Know About Yo Maps

Yo Maps, whose real name is Elton Mulenga, is a Zambian singer, songwriter, and music producer widely recognized as one of the country’s biggest musical exports. Born on November 29, 1994, in Kasama, Zambia, Yo Maps has built a remarkable career through his distinctive voice, heartfelt songwriting, and ability to create chart-topping songs that appeal to audiences across Africa. His music blends Afro-pop, Afro-soul, R&B, Zam-Rock, and Hip-Hop, making him one of the most versatile artists in the Zambian music industry.

Yo Maps discovered his passion for music at an early age. When he was 18 years old, his family relocated to Kabwe, where he began taking music seriously. In 2016, he released his debut single, “Njikata Kuboko”, featuring T-Gear. Although the song introduced him to music fans, it was his 2018 collaboration with Macky 2 on “Finally” that became his breakthrough hit. The song received massive airplay and established Yo Maps as one of Zambia’s fastest-rising artists.

Following his success, Yo Maps continued to release hit songs that dominated radio stations, streaming platforms, and music charts. His popular singles include Mr. Romantic, Try Again featuring Abel Chungu, Fatima featuring Berita, So Mone featuring Tay Grin, Nga Teba Yahweh, Confirmation featuring Iyanya, Superman featuring Omarion, and Bana Bandi. Over the years, he has collaborated with several respected musicians from Zambia and other African countries, helping expand his international fan base.

His discography includes four successful studio albums: Komando (2021), Try Again (2023), My Hero (2024), and Vibes on Vibes (2026). Each project showcases his growth as both a singer and producer while highlighting his ability to blend emotional storytelling with modern African sounds.

Yo Maps has also earned numerous awards and nominations throughout his career. In 2019, he won the Ngoma Award for Song of the Year for “Finally.” During the 2022 Ngoma Awards, he won Outstanding Musician of the Year, Album of the Year for Komando, and Song of the Year for Mr. Romantic. In the same year, he was named Best Male Artist at the African Entertainment Awards USA. His achievements continued with a nomination for Best Male Artist in Southern Africa at the 2025 AFRIMA Awards, reflecting his growing influence across the continent.

Away from music, Yo Maps is a family man. He was previously in a relationship with Prudence Nakamba, popularly known as Mwizukanji, and together they have a daughter named Bukata. On April 23, 2022, he married Kidist Kifle, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Tendai. Kidist has also appeared in several of Yo Maps’ music videos, making them one of Zambia’s most talked-about celebrity couples.
