Singer Towela Apologises for Lisa Mutambo Post, Says She Spoke From Emotion but Will Now Respect Ongoing Police Investigation

Zambian singer Towela Kaira has apologised for the way she reacted publicly following the death of model and socialite Lisa Mutambo, saying she spoke from a place of grief and strong emotion.

In a statement, Towela said she wanted to address the matter out of respect for Lisa and because she did not want the circumstances surrounding her death to be overshadowed by negativity.

Towela Says She Got Her Reaction Wrong

Towela acknowledged that her earlier reaction was not the best way to respond to Lisa’s death and sincerely apologised for how she expressed herself.

She said that although her heart was in the right place, people do not always respond perfectly when dealing with grief.

Towela also stressed that the investigation into Lisa’s death remains ongoing and that people should allow authorities to establish the facts before reaching conclusions.

She said people can be angry, hurt and concerned while still recognising that they may not know everything that happened.

She Explains Why Her Reaction Was So Strong

Despite apologising, Towela said she wanted people to understand what led to her emotional response.

She explained that she is generally not confrontational on social media and mostly uses her platforms for music and entertainment.

However, she said her relationship with Lisa was different and that she had personally heard Lisa speak about difficulties in her relationship.

Towela Says Lisa Opened Up to Her

Towela revealed that she last personally saw Lisa at her wedding slightly more than two weeks before Lisa’s death.

According to Towela, the two had a heart-to-heart conversation during which Lisa allegedly opened up about what she described as a toxic and violent relationship.

Towela said she would not disclose the personal details Lisa shared with her, but claimed that Lisa had expressed concerns about experiencing violence in the relationship.

She further said similar sentiments had allegedly been expressed by Lisa to other people, including people she was with during the hours before her death.

She Says She Immediately Feared the Worst

Towela explained that when she learned Lisa had died at the home of the person she said had allegedly been violent towards her, her mind immediately went to the worst possible conclusion.

However, she acknowledged that her conclusion was not a confirmed fact.

She said her intention in explaining her reaction was to help people understand the emotional circumstances behind what she posted rather than to present her assumptions as established information.

Towela Will Respect the Investigation

The singer has now said she will step back and allow the authorities to complete their work.

Towela noted that some information currently circulating comes from the report made to police and said the ongoing investigation would determine whether the account given is factual, incomplete or otherwise.

She said she expects police or Lisa’s family to provide further updates once investigations and the postmortem process have been completed.

She Says She Will Not Discuss the Matter Further

Towela also expressed frustration that discussions surrounding Lisa’s alleged experiences of emotional and physical abuse had become uncomfortable for some people.

She said she wished she could speak more openly about what Lisa allegedly told her but decided that this was not the appropriate time.

Towela has now said she will not speak publicly about the matter again and has turned off comments on her statement to prevent it from becoming another public debate.

Remembering Lisa

Towela concluded by sending her condolences to Lisa’s family and asking people to remember the late model for the person she was.

She said she hoped Lisa’s family would find comfort during the difficult period and prayed for Lisa to rest peacefully.

The circumstances surrounding Lisa Mutambo’s death remain under investigation, and allegations concerning her relationship should not be treated as established facts unless confirmed through the appropriate investigative or judicial processes.
