Ruff Kid Outlines Manifesto for ZAM Leadership Race

Zambian hip-hop artist Ruff Kid has expressed interest in contesting for the presidency of the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM), unveiling a manifesto centered on protecting local artists, strengthening the music industry, and promoting Zambian content.

The rapper shared several proposals that he believes could transform the country’s music industry if he is elected to lead the association. His ideas have already sparked discussion among musicians and fans, with many debating the practicality and potential impact of the proposed reforms.

Among the key promises in Ruff Kid’s manifesto are:

1. Temporarily stop South African artists from performing in Zambia as a protest against the treatment of Zambians and other foreign nationals in South Africa.
2. Ensure 90% of music played on radio stations, in clubs, barbershops, salons, and other entertainment venues is by Zambian artists to promote local talent.
3. Restrict AI-generated music from being played on radio and in clubs, arguing that artificial intelligence is beginning to threaten employment opportunities for musicians.
4. Establish a trust fund for artists to provide financial support and improve the welfare of musicians across the country.

The proposals come at a time when the Zambian music industry continues to discuss issues surrounding local content promotion, artist welfare, digital transformation, and regional cooperation. Ruff Kid’s stance on South African artists also follows growing concern across parts of Southern Africa over recent anti-immigrant tensions.

While Ruff Kid has publicly expressed his interest in leading ZAM, he is yet to formally launch a campaign or announce further details regarding his candidature.
